Pandia goes to Catalonia

It’s summer on the Northern Hemisphere and Pandia takes a holiday.

Believe it or not, but the editors of Pandia have full time jobs in addition to editing Pandia. Susanne is working for the IT unit of the University of Oslo, while Per is working as a deputy director in NIFU STEP, a Norwegian research institute.

And yes, we badly need a holiday ;)

On Sunday we go to a small city on the coast of Catalonia in the Kingdom of Spain to spend three weeks in the sun. And the whole point of resting is not updating the site every day.

The newsletter will not be back until mid-August.

Not to worry, though. We have no less than four articles ready for you to be published throughout the period, and we will also bring our iBook in order to be able to add the necessary news, comments and recommended articles.

So visit our site regularly. We will be there!

For those of you living north of the Equator: We wish you a great summer! And to our African, Oceanian and Latin American friends: It’s your turn in a few months.

And now: the news!

Here are the latest news headlines and articles from Pandia Search World. Go to www.pandia.com/searchworld for the online version of this news service.

DMOZ meta tag to stop Google from using Open Directory description

Google Sitemaps META tags give you more control of your search listing description.

Google Blogoscoped reports that Google has added a meta tag that can be used to stop Google from using the DMOZ site description in its search engine result listings.

DMOZ (or the Open Directory) is the web directory that provides the Google Directory of hand-picked sites with data.

Google will normally use one of three options when deciding on how to describe a web page in its results:

The Search Marketing Standard Fall Issue

Search Marketing StandardBoris Mordkovich of Search Marketing Standard tells us that a new version of his printed publication will be out in August.

The cover story is on the effect of landing pages in a time of rising pay-per-click bid costs.

The issue will also cover search engine optimization, web analytics, click fraud, local and contextual search, and other search-related topics.

In our June review of the first issue of the magazine we concluded that we liked the publication, but had a few proposals for further development.

Mordkovich & Co will definitely follow up on one of them: It will be 30% larger than its predecessor, he says, and will contain more intermediate to advanced material as readers have requested.

Yearly subscription to the magazine costs US$10 for US-based readers and US$ 20 for international subscribers.

Search engine conferences and workshops

Pandia looks at conferences and workshops for people interested in search engine marketing and Internet searching, including webmasters, marketers, internet professionals, librarians and researchers.

Are you looking for the latest on the search engine scene, itching to meet colleagues and competition or do you simply need some inspiration?

One of the best way to get up to date is to participate in search engine conferences and workshops.

Not only do you get the chance to hear and ask the leading search engine experts world wide, you also get access to the latest gossip and rumors. It is amazing to see how much even the search engine representatives are willing to divulge over a beer or two!

If you are able to continue into the night, you will also see people gathering around search engine celebrities and — even — performers of the black arts: search engine spamming and the like.
