Search Engine Submissions & Registration

2010 update: Please note that it is no longer necessary or useful to submit your web pages to the search engines. Google and Bing/Yahoo! are normally able to find them on their own, and do not need you to tell them where they are.

If you are the owner of a large site, it may make sense to allow Google and Bing to access a dedicated XML site map file. For smaller web sites this is not necessary.

If you want to make sure the search engines find your pages as quickly as possible, there are several ways of doing this.

Firstly you should make sure to update your site with new pages on a regular basis. That will make the search engine recrawl your site more often.

Secondly you may make use of social media. A link to your page from several respected "tweeps" in twitter will normally make the search engines sit up and notice.
